Christmas Reception

Event Date: 14/12/2009

18.30

Our next event is a Christmas reception at the Foundling Museum on December 14th from 18.30 to 21.00.

The Foundling Museum is at 40 Brunswick Square WC1N (see www.foundlingmuseum.org.uk) and is one of London’s “hidden treasures”.  It derives its name and museum contents from London’s oldest children’s charity now known as Coram.  Formerly The Foundling Hospital, Coram had both Handel and Hogarth as patrons and the collection there charts the history of Coram and the work they have done with children for 270 years.  It also has a collection which reflects its artistic patrons including the famous Hogarth portrait of Captain Thomas Coram who founded the charity by Royal Charter in 1739 as well as a fair copy of the manuscript of Handel’s Messiah.

We are able to use this wonderful building, in part, because my wife Philippa is a governor and in part because it will provide Coram with a (brief) opportunity to touch on their work.  Last year we managed to raise some money for a charity through an impromptu auction: this year we will hope to do the same.  The evening will, like our Summer Party, have food and drink, music and good company.
